Springtime is world-famous in Holland.
Imagine the beauty of the windmills, lush green countrysides and the national beauty – the tulip!
The Netherlands is known for being a country of flowers.
The tulip has played a large role in the history and culture of the country.
People from around the world travel to the Netherlands to view the splendor of springtime in all of its glory.
Just outside of Amsterdam, you can visit Keukenhof Gardens to enjoy the beautiful seasonal flowers.
This is a popular tourist destination that is unparallel to any other garden experience.

Keukenhof was once a hunting area in the 15th century.
The word keukenhof actually means kitchen garden or kitchen court in Dutch.
The name comes from the historical use of the present-day gardens.
Herbs for the kitchen of the castle of Jacoba van Beieren were once grown on this site.

You only have a couple months beginning in March and ending in May to enjoy the breathtaking floral displays.
Employees and volunteers work year-round to ensure the park is in its most beautiful form for the short period that it is open to the public.
You can stroll along the 15 kilometers of footpaths to see over 4.5 million tulips and over 100 different varieties.
You can also see more than 2,500 different trees in 87 varieties.
Great care goes into preparing the garden as 7 million flower bulbs are planted by hand.
Artists have been able to display their work since the 1940s, so there is quite a collection.
Pieces of artwork are also integrated into the displays to offer the guests of Keukenhof a one-of-a-kind experience.
This spectacular site is the most photographed place in the world!

Keukenhof is one of the most popular attractions in the Netherlands as it is the largest bulb flower park in the world.
In fact, it has been honored with recognition as Europe’s most valued attraction.
Over 44 million people have visited Keukenhof over the past 60 years.
The park can accommodate individuals, families, children and groups so people of all ages can explore the magnificent destination spot.

Keukenhof wants to offer its guests the most memorable experience possible.
In 2010, guests can take advantage of the audiovisual Discovery Tour.
The Discovery tour gives guests information on all facets of the park!
There are parks, pavilions, restaurants and so much more to explore.
The Discovery Tour will help you navigate your way around all there is to see.
Guests can even learn about the bulb growing process and history of the area and the park.
The Keukenhof Discovery Tour will give guests an hour of intriguing information that includes recordings, photos, videos and interviews.

There is also an annual Flowers parade that makes its way through Keukenhof.
That parade is named the Face of Spring, which follows a 40 kilometer route from Noordwijk to Haarlem.
The parade passes through Keukenhof sometime in the afternoon.
It is the most famous parade in Netherlands and it is something you will not want to miss.
About twenty floats and more than thirty vehicles that are decorated with gorgeous floral arrangements will take part in the procession.
Another great part of the parade is it is free of charge!

This is one of my favorite things about spring in the Netherlands. We made it to the parade one year and the amount of work that goes into it is unbelievable!

Keukenhof Gardens are the best botanical gardens I have seen in my life. They are beautiful! The colors and the display are unlike any other. The artwork that is displayed amongst the flowers make the experience all the more magical =)
