When you move to Brazil, you will try many different foods with flavors that have been influenced from around the world.
One dish you will definitely wan to try is feijoada.
Feijoada is Brazil’s national dish, which was brought to Brazil by the Portuguese.
Feijoada is made into a stew with beans, beef and pork.
Different regions of the world add their own unique touches to the popular meal.
In Brazil, feijoada is made with black turtle beans.
Pork and beef are also important ingredients in the meal and there are many different types used in the dish.
Salted pork trimmings, such as ears, tail and feet, can be used.
Bacon, smoked sausage and smoked pork ribs are also possible ingredients.
Jerked beef, such as the loin and tongue, can also be used.
A thick clay pot is used to cook the stew over a slow fire.
There is a dark broth that covers the beans and meat for a salty, delicious meal.
Feijoada is usually served with rice and a side of hot pepper, as are many dishes in Brazil.
Fried collard greens, oranges and roasted cassava flour are also popular side dishes.
Fried cassava, plantains and pork rinds can also be part of this traditional Brazilian meal.
Feijoada is very time consuming, so it is usually only cooked for special occasions.
It is a very heavy meal, so it is always served at lunchtime so you have the rest of the day to digest it.
Some restaurants will only serve this meal a few times a week because it does take several hours to cook.
Legend has it the feijoada was once a special meal prepared by African slaves.
Over time, Brazilians came to appreciate the dish and it was first popular among the lower classes.
It finally gained enough popularity to become Brazil’s national dish.
Other historians believe that it was a meal influenced by the French and Portuguese.
However the dish came to be, it is now one of the favorites of Brazil.
It is served at the finest restaurants in Brazil, as well as smaller restaurants with less expensive food.
When you move to Brazil, be sure to try the many exotic and different dishes.
You will get to try a wide variety of new ingredients and flavors.

I never knew what Feijoada was before my move to Brazil with intlmove. This is such a delectable dish… you will wonder why it is not more popular in the United States. The stew flavor is to die for and it is so filling! It would be even better if there was a chilly day in Brazil because Feijoada is so hearty and warm! It would be perfect for a winter’s day.

I don’t particularly like Feijoada, but there are so many other great foods in Brazil. I moved to Brazil a year ago with intlmove. I love meat and a lot of the food in Brazil is made with steak and beef. I love it!!
